BRANDON, FL — A 21-year-old man who is accused of killing a victim in November on a Tampa basketball court has been identified as Jumari´ Cyrion Womack of Georgia, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release said.
Cyrion faces a first-degree murder charge, investigators said.
According to deputies, on Nov. 2 at 7:40 p.m., the victim played basketball at Winston Park, 7605 Destin Drive, Tampa, with Womack and another Black male. Womack is accused of shooting the victim and then leaving with the other Black male.
A witness took the victim to Brandon Regional Hospital. Eighteen days later, the victim died of his injuries at the hospital, deputies said.
Homicide detectives with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Womack lured the victim to the basketball court with the intent of killing him. Womack chose a date and time to meet the victim and then went back to Georgia following the shooting.
HCSO detectives and deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office arrested Womack on April 22 at his Georgia home, deputies said.
"Detectives worked many months to build leads that ultimately led them to their suspect," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "Their continued efforts took a dangerous individual off of the streets who had no regard for human life. I hope the arrest brings some closure to the victim's family who has had to mourn the loss of their loved one gone much too soon. I want to thank the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office for their assistance during our investigation."
Womack remains in custody in DeKalb County pending extradition to Hillsborough County.
