STAMFORD, CT — U.S. News & World Report recently released its list of best high schools for 2022, and Stamford's three high schools made the cut. In Connecticut, 206 schools were ranked, and 17,853 were ranked nationally. The Academy of Information Technology & Engineering was ranked 30th in Connecticut and 1,463rd in the country; Westhill High School came in at 64th in the state, 3,022nd in the U.S.; and Stamford High School was ranked 94th statewide, 4,768th in the U.S. U.S. News & World Report said the methodology for identifying the top-ranked schools was developed with a core principle in mind: that the top schools must serve all students well and must produce measurable academic outcomes that support this mission. U.S. News worked with North Carolina-based RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm to develop the list. Data is from the 2019-2020 school year. High schools were rated on the following six measures. College readiness, 30 percent of the rankingCollege curriculum breadth, 10 percentState assessment proficiency, 20 percentState assessment performance, 20 percentUnderserved student performance, 10 percentGraduation rate, 10 percent While the six ranking indicators that determined each school's rank were the same as those used in the three prior years, U.S. News said it adjusted its calculation of these measures to account for the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on schools in the 2019-2020 school year. Since most states closed school for in-person instruction beginning in March 2020, typically right before most states conduct assessments, the U.S. Department of Education granted waivers allowing all states to forego state testing for the 2019-2020 school year. — To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.
