CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI — More Chippewa Falls police officers will patrol local schools starting Tuesday after a 10-year-old's disappearance led to a tragic discovery.
Police found Iliana "Lily" Peters' body in a wooded area near Duncan Creek on Monday.
More officers patrol city schools during pick-up and drop-off times, the Chippewa Falls Police Department said in a Facebook post.
"You may notice an increased law enforcement presence around our schools," police said. "We will be increasing our patrol especially during drop-off and pick-up times."
Peters was missing for 13 hours before her body was found around 9:15 a.m. on Monday, police chief Matthew Kelm said in a news conference.
The girl's father told police that she didn't return home from a trip to her aunt's house on Sunday night, police said. Peters was reported missing around 9 p.m. Sunday.
Officers found Peters' bicycle in the woods a short distance from her aunt's house, near North Grove Street and a brewery parking lot, police said.
Police asked anyone with tips about Lily Peters' case to call 1-800-263-5906.
