MEDFORD, MA — Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn has appointed Owen Wartella as Medford's newest City Engineer. Wartella has been serving as Assistant City Engineer since January. He succeeds Tim McGivern, who has since assumed the role of Commissioner of the Department of Public Works. The open City Engineer position was posted publicly as of March 1and formally offered to Wartella in early April. "Owen came to Medford highly recommended and his breadth of experience, coupled with his passion for the environment and sustainability made him an ideal choice for this role," Lungo-Koehn said in a statement. "I'm happy he accepted this new position and I'm ready to work with him and his team on our infrastructure needs." The Engineering Department oversees several critical areas of city planning, including flood mitigation and storm resiliency improvements, expanding green infrastructure, and working with the administration to implement the city's comprehensive pavement plan. "Thank you to Mayor Lungo-Koehn for trusting me to help guide the City's engineering strategy," Wartella said in a statement. "Upgrading and optimizing Medford's infrastructure is a priority and I'm excited to work with my colleagues to make these improvements for our community."
