Okay here's my story, they recently found a tumor in my right upper lung and they want to do a needle biopsy which will cost me out of my pocket around $10,000. My problem is I recently got approved for Medicare and my part A is available to use now however it will not pay for the needle biopsy. My part B Medicare will not start until July 1st. That's the part that would pay for the biopsy and for chemo, radiation, and surgery. So my question is this the needle biopsy is going to tell me if the tumor is cancer and where it has spread. Unfortunately for me that really doesn't help because I would not be able to afford any of the treatment and my doctor says if I can't get the treatment I should say goodbye to all my friends and family and he gives me about 6 months. He believes from his experience that the tumor is in an advanced stage. So would you want to know that you only have 6 months left would you pay $10,000 even though you cannot afford to treat the tumor? I'm not sure I want to know if I only have 6 months left I think getting depressed would make my health go downhill faster. It's a very tough situation and I'm just asking for your opinion, what would you do in my situation would you get the needle biopsy or wait until July 1st when Medicare part B kicks in and you can afford treatment? Thanks for reading this.
