Maynard Man Indicted In Braintree South Shore Plaza Shooting Case

BRAINTREE, MA - A Norfolk County grand jury on Monday indicted Julius Hammond-Desir for murder and weapons charges in the January 22 fatal shooting at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey. "State Police homicide detectives assigned to the district attorney's office and Braintree police have been working closely with Assistant District Attorney Anne Yas as evidence was developed and presented to the grand jury," Morrissey said. "We are thankful to the grand jurors and detectives for their work. These indictments move the prosecution of the murder of Dijoun Beasley to the Norfolk Superior Court." Hammond-Desir is accused of shooting Beasley, 26, in the head at around 3 p.m. near the exit to Forever 21 in the mall on January 22. Beasley was shopping with his girlfriend, who was pushing a baby in a stroller. Beasley was transported to a Boston hospital where he was later died that evening. Morrissey added that the Superior Court arraignment date should be finalized in the coming week. The grand jury also indicted Samantha Schwartz for accessory after the fact of the murder and carrying a firearm, he said. Hammond-Desir, 19, of Maynard, was taken into custody in February in Dorchester and entered a plea of not guilty at his Quincy District Court arraignment on Feb. 16. He has been held without bail since that time. Schwartz, 27, of Attleboro, entered a plea of not guilty at her January 28 Quincy District Court arraignment and was ordered held on $20,000 cash bail.
