High: 79 Low: 47. Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today: A hostage situation in South Sacramento ended in an arrest some 17 hours after it began around 10 am on Monday. Police say the victim and the suspect were both adult males, known to one another, but they did not reveal the exact relationship between the two. The suspect was identified as 48-year-old Eric Minjares, of Sacramento. The victim has not been identified. (KCRA3)Talk about a char-broiled burger! Workers from a nearby McDonald's are being credited with helping to quell a fire behind a South Sacramento home. A shed behind the home went up in flames Tuesday morning on Fruitridge Road near 55th Street. No injuries have been reported. (CBS Sacramento) The Makers Market is back at DOCO! Shop for Mom this weekend and choose from lots of artisan goodies. You'll find everything from jewelry to homemade soaps to that special card for Mom, and more. If someone made it, they can sell it here! There will be Makers Markets periodically throughout the year at the open-air venue. The next is scheduled for June 25. (The Sacramento Press)A Federal grand jury has indicted two sacramento men for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and distribution of cocaine. If convicted, Jose Manuel Chavez Zepeda, 54, of Carmichael, and Denis Zacarias Ponce Castillo, 37, of Sacramento face a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a $5M fine. This effort is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach. After six years without a facility, due to a pool rebuild and a pandemic, the Cordova Lancers are getting back into the swing of things in their new digs. Swimming coach Gabrielle Avallone, better known as coach Gabi, couldn't be happier about the team finally getting their pool back. On Friday, April 22, Cordova hosted the Greater Sacramento League (GSL) Swimming Championships at their brand-new pool complex and things went swimmingly! Cordova had four swimmers finish first in one or more events this year at the GSL Championships. (7:00 PM) From my notebook: Community members are invited to participate in the creation of new murals during the City of Sacramento's final four community mural paint days. The free events are part of the City's Office of Arts and Culture pilot "Community Murals Sacramento" program, which selected 39 local artists to create 10 community-based murals across the city. The events will feature live music, food, vendors and an opportunity to help paint a mural. No art experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided. This weekend is your last chance for the Dinosaur Safari at the #SacramentoZoo.
