Press release from the Acton-Boxborough Regional School District: April 26, 2022 Legal Notice Publication Change (April, 2022) Last month, Gannett Publishing announced it will cease publication of many printed weekly newspapers across Massachusetts, continuing only-digital operations. This change will eliminate Acton's local print newspaper The Beacon where, for many years, the Town of Acton and the ABRSD advertised legal notices of public hearings. While in recent decades State Law has provided for government websites to be additional posting locations, it has not provided for the replacement of newsprint notices (MGL c.4 s.13(b)). The Town has used the daily paper Lowell Sun as an alternative when required by timing concerns. As current State Law continues to require publication in newsprint, effective May 2022, the Town of Acton and the ABRSD will be advertising all legal notices in the Lowell Sun.
