3 Men Charged In Scheme To Defraud Uber With Damaged Tesla: Prosecutor

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Hudson County prosecutors have charged three Jersey City men with fraud, saying the men submitted bogus insurance claims on a previously-damaged Tesla that they claimed was being used as a Lyft and Uber rideshare car. Muhammad Khan, age 21, Haq Khan, age 24 and Yasir Raza, age 34, have each been charged withone count of third-degree insurance fraud and third-degree conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. The men were released with summonses and have a court appearance scheduled for May 5. The Prosecutor's Office said, "The investigation determined that these three individuals attempted to defraud ridesharing companies by attempting to collect insurance proceeds for fictitious accidents they claimed to have had in a 2018 Tesla. "However, the Tesla was previously damaged in an accident and determined by an insurance company to be a total loss." Prosecutor Suarez credited the Insurance Fraud Unit with the investigation and arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
