COLLINGSWOOD, NJ — The current pop-up art exhibit at the Perkins Loft Gallery in Collingswood displays work from Ukrainian artists, organizers said. There are various portraits and landscape paintings to view besides the ones featured in this story to view. Blues and yellows — the colors of the Ukranian flag — dominate many of the pieces on display. Athena Zhe, one of artists whose work is featured in the exhibit and a native of Ukraine, said since she cannot be on the battlefield, she uses art as a makeshift weapon. "This is my way of helping Ukraine win," she told Patch. "With my art, I try my hardest to raise the awareness on what's really is going on in Ukraine." Catherine "Cat" Kuzma who grew up in a Ukrainian household, is another one of the artists whose work is on display at the Perkins Loft Gallery. She expressed hope that gallery visitors would use the exhibit as an impetus for learning more about the country. "A lot of times [Ukraine] is confused with Russia," she said in an interview. There is no cost to visit Perkins Loft Gallery to view the Ukranian art, Marion Jacobson, the Interim Folk Life Director at Perkins Center for the Arts, told Patch. Proceeds from the sale of items within "Art for Ukraine" go to the Ukrainian Federation of America and families affected by the war in Ukraine, Jacobson added. The "Art for Ukraine" exhibit at The Perkins Loft Gallery can be seen during business hours — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday — or by appointment. The exhibit ends its run on Friday.
