After His Palm Springs Home Burns, Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Arson

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A 57-year-old man accused of setting his Palm Springs residence on fire was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of arson. Palm Springs fire and police personnel responded around 10:20 a.m. Friday to Richard Joseph Wolitski's home in the 2000 block of Tamarisk Road and found the structure engulfed in flames. Neighboring residents were evacuated while crews battled the fire. Wolitski suffered injuries described as moderate and was taken to a hospital. Police said Tuesday that investigators determined Wolitski had intentionally set his residence on fire. No information was released on why he allegedly did so. Wolitski was arrested on suspicion of arson and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio. Information on bail and a tentative court date were not immediately available.
