GLEN COVE, NY – Glen Cove community members gathered over the weekend to create a visible reminder that early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. On Saturday, the Glen Cove Beautification Commission partnered with Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S. to plant thousands of pink tulip bulbs throughout the city. Dozens of volunteers attended, including students from Glen Cove High School. The project was created by Terry Petikas, founder of Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S, who enlisted the support of the Beautification Commission. "Partners in Pink" has become an annual event since that time. Each fall, the bulbs are planted so that when the tulips bloom in the spring the community is reminded of those who have been affected by cancer. "Our community appreciates the efforts of Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S. and the Beautification Commission for organizing this community-wide awareness project each year," said Glen Cove Mayor Tim Tenke. "The tulips are a wonderful reminder of the importance of cancer awareness and I thank all of the volunteers for participating in this worthy cause."
