Press release from Assemblymember Charles D. Lavine: Oct. 30, 2020 As New York State Assembly Election Law Committee Chair, Assemblymember Lavine has always advocated for fair voting conditions for all Americans. The pandemic has drastically changed how Americans are voting this year, making it all the more necessary for Assemblymember Lavine to make sure Nassau County voters can cast their ballots. While many Nassau voters have chosen to participate in early in person voting, long wait times have been an unnecessary obstacle for many. Assemblymember Lavine alongside Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is demanding that the Early Voting hours are expanded in an effort to overcome this problem. Assemblymember Lavine has sent a letter to Republican Commissioner Joseph J. Kearney demanding that he agree to extend early voting hours. "It is of critical importance that Nassau County residents are able to cast their vote," said Lavine. "Expanding Early Voting polling hours will permit more of our citizens to vote without outrageous wait times." New York State has always given great deference to the consensus decisions of our Republican and Democratic County Board of Election Commissioners. Commissioner Kearney must to Democratic Commissioner James P. Scheurman's request to extend early voting hours. Early Voting legislation has been at the forefront of the Assemblymember's legislative priorities as the Election Law Committee Chair. This press release was produced by Assemblymember Charles D. Lavine. The views expressed here are the author's own.
