PORTLAND, OR — Portland police promised that not only is this story not BOAR-ing, it is so exSTYting, I would feel the need to pick up my PEN and write about it. An officer from the East Precinct was driving by Southeast Division Street and Southeast 138th Avenue just after midnight Tuesday when she noticed traffic slowing and driving around something in the road, according to Portland police. She stopped her patrol car to investigate. That's when she saw a pig standing in the eastbound lanes of Division, police said. The officer, who was not identified, called for backup from other officers and animal control. The officers worked to keep the pig calm and to prevent what the police bureau called "their new pig friend" from getting hurt. They also didn't want him to cause a serious car crash. Officers awaited the arrival of the Oregon City-based On Call Community Rescue for Animals and kept the pig from running away. Police said that one officer got snacks for it; it turned out that the pig liked goldfish crackers and cookies. Nacho cheese Doritos? Not so much. The animal rescue group arrived and got the pig into a crate with the help of police. The pig was unharmed. Police officers hang out with their pig friend while waiting for animal rescue.
