LEMONT, IL — Lemont Township residents who have an interest in nature and how bees and butterflies can work along with humans to contribute to the earth's longevity are invited to participate in a special Earth Day event that will take place this weekend. Lemont Township officials are hosting the Earth Day celebration, which will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Lemont Township Heritage Woodland Sanctuary, which is located at 16300 Alba St. The event will include free family activities including a prairie walk and talk session, a presentation by local beekeeper Mark Pawlak as well as the unveiling of a new bee habitat, which has been donated by the Lemont Lions Club. The event is also the kickoff to the volunteer prairie clean-up, which will contribute to service hours for local residents, organizers said. The Lemont Historical Society is also hosting an exhibit that features Historic Conservation during World War II. More information may be found at the Lemont Township website or by emailing Kathy Henrikson at [email protected]. Questions may also be directed to organizers by phone by calling (630) 257-2522.
