TUSCALOOSA, AL — After a successful career on the hardwood, Shelton State Community College men's basketball coach Joe Eatmon will be stepping down from coaching to become the school's new Dean of Community Relations.

Eatmon will begin work in his new role on May 1.
"Walking away from coaching was definitely one of the toughest decisions I've ever made," Eatmon said on Twitter Tuesday. "This is definitely a big opportunity for me to grow and also have an impact on a community that I love. I assure you I will approach this new role with the same passion and effort I brought to the sideline!"
Eatmon has served as the head men's basketball coach at Shelton State Community College since 2016 and worked before then as an assistant for the Bucs, beginning in 2012. During his time as head coach, he was been named National Junior College Athletic Association Region 22 and District 12 Coach of the Year numerous times.
He is a graduate of the University of West Alabama and Central High School in Tuscaloosa, where he was a standout basketball star.
It has not yet been announced who will become the next head coach for the Buccaneers.
