Description
WATERFORD, CT — Waterford police said that conditions at a homeless site in town have deteriorated after volunteers cleaned up the area before the pandemic.
Numerous community organizations have stepped up and are providing housing options.
Police posted the following on Facebook:
Before all the Covid-19 concerns began, we posted pics of a homeless site in town and the clean-up efforts by some incredible volunteers that took place.
Unfortunately, the site has become worse than before and is hazardous for those residing there as well as anyone checking in or called there for service.
A renewed effort has begun with numerous community organizations to provide resources for everyone still residing there. The main focus is to connect those residing there to housing options before the weather gets dangerously cold. With that cold weather comes other concerns such as fires and heating elements inside of tents.
Already, several people have been provided housing, dumpsters provided for site clean-up and other services offered as needed. These organizations have been incredible in their efforts to help those residing there, rather than pushing them on to another location.
Of course not every person wants to accept the assistance, but we are still trying to assist those in any manner we can so that they too have some positive options.
A huge thank you to everyone offering assistance:
