Nassau Coronavirus By Community: 64 Hospitalized, Cases Grow

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Long Island is finally reopened and things seem to be returning to normal. But the threat from the coronavirus is still real, and dozens of people are testing positive for the virus each day, even as the death rate drops to nearly zero. Since the first confirmed case in Nassau County March 5, 48,874 residents have been confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus and 2,208 people have died. Six Nassau residents have died from the virus in October and 1,935 have tested positive so far this month. According to Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, there were 64 Nassau residents hospitalized as of Wednesday, with 10 in the intensive care unit and 10 on ventilators. Despite a low infection rate, cases continue to climb. There are nine Nassau communities that have more than 1,000 confirmed cases. Hempstead, the hardest-hit community, has had more than 2,500 cases. Here are the latest case totals for Nassau communities from data provided by the county.
