NYU Langone Health May Take Over Abandoned Local Sears Building

GARDEN CITY, NY — An abandoned Garden City Sears building that has been sitting empty since 2018 could soon house a new medical facility that would provide clinical services to local residents, NYU Langone-Long Island officials announced this week. A spokesperson for NYU Langone confirmed this week that it has submitted a proposal to Garden City village officials to convert the four-story building at 111 Franklin Ave. into a multi-use medical center. The proposal to use the former Sears space is part of NYU Langone Health's growth strategy to enhance access to integrated health care on Long Island. The ambulatory care center will bring together multiple practices from around the area and move them into one centralized location. The spokesperson said that the final building schedule remains under development. Planned clinical services for the center would include cardiology, in-vitro fertilization, women's health and imaging services, pediatric care, radiology services as well as internal medicine primary care center, the health system spokesperson said this week. The spokesperson is unsure at the time of how many jobs the centralized medical care center could create if approved by village officials. According to a published report, NYU Langone could take over the space for more than three decades if the proposal is approved.
