PEABODY, MA — Peabody police are urging residents to lock their cars at night after receiving reports that unlocked cars have been entered in the area of Coleman Street. Car theft is typically a crime of convenience where thieves will try multiple doors until they find one left unlocked and take money or other valuables left inside. There were recent reports of unlocked cars being burglarized in Danvers as well. Anyone with information on the attempted thefts, or those who remember seeing suspicious activity in the area, are asked to call Peabody police at 978-538-6300. Anyone will video surveillance of the area is asked to save it and also contact Peabody police so they can view it for evidence.
