ISO a dog or puppy for my son

Hi all. I have a son who is on the spectrum, and I have been in search of a dog for him. I'd love to find him a best friend, male or female. Preferably a pup or under 2 years. These fees on craigslist that people are charging are so much and though I have a great vet, and I have no issue with the cost of caring for one in an ongoing basis, the initial fees to buy one seem so high. We have been checking out shelters as well, even they want almost 500.00, which seems much less than some are charging here, but I thought I would post on here anyway, in case anyone has one. We go to beaches and parks all the time and I work from home. The dog would have a wonderful and spoiled life. He loves Dobermans, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, and many more, including smaller breeds too, we really are open. Just has to be ok with kids (tweens) and cats. (I have one cat).
