WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford resident has died from complications of the new coronavirus. Audrey Carretta, 86, a retired elementary school teacher is the town's first confirmed death from COVID-19, according to the Meriden Record-Journal. Carretta, who was a teacher at E.C. Stevens Elementary School, died Monday, according to her obituary. Wallingford had 10 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the state department of health. Wallingford had its first two confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 25. Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson announced Monday afternoon that the town was closing all municipal buildings to the public effectively immediately in response to the new coronavirus pandemic. There have been 3,218 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Connecticut as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Gov. Ned Lamont.
