WALLINGFORD, CT — There were 30 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Wallingford as of Monday, according to state health officials. Statewide, there were 1,231 more positive cases announced Monday, along with 17 more deaths and 79 hospitalizations. Overall, the number of confirmed cases in Connecticut is 6,906 with 206 deaths related to the virus with 1,221 hospitalizations as of Monday, according to Gov. Ned Lamont. Fairfield County continues to compile the highest number of confirmed cases with 3,719, or 53.9 percent of the state's total. New Haven County has 1,468 confirmed cases with 41 deaths. The state has tested more than 26,000 people for COVID-19. The deaths include any person tested positive for COVID-19 around the time of death. The Office of the State Medical Examiner determines if COVID-19 was a contributing factor to the death. Lamont said Monday the state is using hospitalization and death data as a better indicator of infections because testing capacity can vary daily. Lamont remained optimistic that Connecticut could "flatten the curve" of the outbreak as hospitalizations and deaths appear to be going up linearly instead of exponentially. He also said the fight against coronavirus could last a year. To sign up for Wallingford breaking news alerts and more, click here.
