Here's How Much Garden City Candidates Raised For 2020

GARDEN CITY, NY — Running for office isn't cheap. Candidates on the ballot in 2020 raised thousands of dollars to try to win their seats. We looked at the latest data available from the state and federal governments to see how much candidates that appeared on the ballot on Garden City spent. The most recent data available is form mid October for both. But it shows that, even weeks before the election, candidates were spending big to try to win. 4th Congressional District Incumbent Democrat Kathleen Rice was challenged by Republican John Tuman for the seat. And Rice raised more than ten times what Tuman did. The Federal Election Commission considers funds raised from Jan. 1, 2019 as contributing to the 2020 race. The most recent data is from Oct. 14. As of Thursday, Rice still holds a comfortable lead over Tuman, 147,425 votes to Tuman's 134,225. Kathleen Rice for Congress Total Raised: $962,741.85Total Spent: $1,025,379.52Cash on Hand: $231,359.22 Elect Tuman Total Raised: $88,268.67Total Spent: $66,532.48Cash on Hand: $21,736.19 Senate District 6 In Senate District 6, incumbent Democrat Kevin Thomas was challenged by Republican Dennis Dunne, Sr., who is on the Hempstead Town Board. Thomas raised nearly five times the amount that Dunne did. The most recent data available is from Oct. 26 As of Election Day, Thomas was trailing Dunne 56,672 to 64,509. The candidates are waiting until absentee ballots are counted. Ra raised much more cash than his opponent for the race. As of Election Day, Ra also had nearly double the votes of his challenger: 33,177 to 18,810.
