GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 13. Oct. 7 A resident reported several forged checks, totaling $8,000, were written against her bank account. Oct. 8 License plates were reported missing from a vehicle parked in a Garden City Plaza parking lot.Officers responded to 4th Street where a 2-year-old child was accidentally locked inside a vehicle. The officers were able to unlock the vehicle and free the child.Detectives are investigating an unauthorized withdrawal of $5,000 against a resident's bank account.A 26-year-old driver was charged with driving on Washington Avenue with five license suspensions, unsafe lane usage, unregistered vehicle and uninsured vehicle. Oct. 9 A resident reported an unauthorized cell phone account was opened in his name.A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license, driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed in a school zone. Oct. 10 A vehicle parked in a private Franklin Avenue parking lot was reportedly struck and damaged by an unknown vehicle.Officers and water department personnel responded to reports of two water line breaks, one on Stewart Avenue and the other on Locust Street. Oct. 11 Officers and firefighters responded to the Adelphi University Nexis Building for a smoke condition emanating from the mechanical room. The occupants were evacuated until the condition was corrected and the smoke was cleared from the building.A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving while operating a handheld electronic device. Oct. 12 An officer responded to St. James Street South for a fallen tree blocking traffic. The Parks Department responded to the scene and cleared the roadway. Oct. 13 Upon investigation of a domestic incident at a Garden City home, officers arrested a 42-year-old man for contacting a prior acquaintance in violation of a stay away court order. He was charged with criminal contempt. As a result of a traffic investigation on Franklin Avenue, officers arrested a 33-year-old man for DWI, driving with a revoked license due to a prior DWI, six license suspensions and failure to yield to another vehicle.
