Description
I found a dog at the intersection of Poole Road and Southbridge Road in Knightdale around 5:20pm earlier this evening. The dog had been hit by a car (presumably) & killed. Probably female but I didn’t confirm, black & white speckled, looked like maybe a cattle dog mix based on her ears & muzzle. There was a faded red-orange Kong collar laying next to her with no tags, & no tags in the road/grass around her either.
Another person & I asked around both the small neighborhood on Southbridge Rd and the larger neighborhood on Oakes Plantation Drive (immediately across the road from where the dog was) and determined that she almost definitely came from the Oakes Plantation neighborhood, but no one identified a definite owner. (One neighbor did identify the most likely home but since they weren’t 100% sure I’m not publicly posting the address. That neighbor also said the dog had been there for a couple hours already by the time I got there.)
I called Wake County Animal Control, who directed me to the Department of Transportation. I left a voicemail with the local DOT at 5:50pm with the exact location asking for them to pick her up. I also asked that she be scanned for a microchip but I don’t know if they will.
Posting here in case her owner is looking. I’m sorry for your loss.
