NORWOOD, MA — Repairs at Norwood Hospital could take at least a year after the June 28 flood left catastrophic damage. Steward Health Care officials told WCVB that inspections show at least a year-long timeline for the repairs and "total replacement is required." Norwood officials were hopeful in August that the hospital's emergency room could get back up and running by the fall but the work will likely take longer. Hospital officials are still prioritizing the Emergency Department repairs. June's torrential downpour brought four inches of rain to Norwood in less than 90 minutes, flooding the hospital basement, parking lot and damaging vital systems that run through the building including the HVAC and mechanical systems. In the wake of the flood, Norwood Hospital patients were moved to hospitals across the area and those seeking medical attention were directed to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and Beth Israel Deaconess Needham.
