Norwood Coronavirus Case Rise Pushes Town To 'High Risk'

NORWOOD, MA — Norwood's COVID-19 case count increased over the last two weeks, pushing the town into the state designated "high risk" category. Norwood had 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the last 14 days and a 1.86 percent test positivity rate over the last two weeks. Norwood has a total case count of 724 positive COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. "We all still have work to do to mitigate the risk of illness for ourselves and our neighbors, and I ask everyone in our community to continue doing their part to fight this virus by practicing social distancing, wearing masks and washing their hands regularly," said Norwood General Manager Tony Mazzucco. Norwood was one of seventy-seven communities designated high-risk for the coronavirus in the new town-by-town data released by the state Thursday. State rules mean that high-risk communities, plus others that were high-risk in the last two updates, cannot move on to the next phase of reopening. Towns were marked high-risk, or red, if they reported more than eight average daily confirmed COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents over the past two weeks. Norwood officials are encouraging residents to maintain social distancing and wear face masks whenever they're out.
