Description
My philosophy is "Everything I ever needed to know about business I learned on the sports field." From Behind The Scoreboard, I feature the sports stories that tell us much more than simply who won or lost. These personal and inspiring experiences of grade school, high school, college, other amateur and even pro athletes allow all of us to reflect a little more on what is important in life. ~ James C. Marty Lyons Grants 8,000 Wishes For Ill Children
Marty Lyons was tough on the football field. The defensive tackle’s career is celebrated in the New York Jets Ring of Honor. But, his larger legacy is off the field.
While he was in the NFL, and at a time when all was going well in his personal life, tragedy struck Marty and his family. From the pieces, he created the Marty Lyons Foundation. Almost 40 years later, the foundation is active in 13 states and has helped grant wishes for more than 8,000 children between the ages of three and 17 who are in treatment for terminal or life-threatening illnesses.
His personal takeaway is that the kids, especially those who have passed away, are teachers for the rest of us. Marty said it is important to develop relationships with them and listen to their life messages.
