WALLINGFORD, CT — Police have announced a road closure and parking bans that will be in effect for the Fishbein/Wallingford Family YMCA Road Race on Sunday, Oct. 4, in Wallingford. This year's road race will have both a live and a virtual component, due to the coronavirus pandemic. In following Gov. Ned Lamont's guidelines for outdoor events, the YMCA has been several protocols in place, according to organizers. The 5K race will be the only live event, while the 5K, 10K and 1-mile walk is being offered as virtual options. The race will be limited to 500 participants. There will be a rolling start and faster runners are encouraged to be in the earlier waves, according to organizers. There will also be a longer chute at the finish line, and participants and spectators will not be allowed to congregate near the finish line or elsewhere, organizers said. The awards ceremony will be held virtually. Spectators, staff and volunteers will all be required to wear face masks and to socially distance by at least 6 feet. Runners do not need to wear a face mask during the race but masks will be required at all other times before and after the race when social distancing cannot be maintained. Police announced the following road closure and parking bans: Road Closure: South Elm Street will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic between the intersection of Center Street, and the intersection of Ward Street, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4. Parking prohibitions: In anticipation of the road closure, there will be no parking on South Elm Street between Wall Street and Ward Street for the duration of the event. Police remind motorists that vehicles parked in violation of the prohibition will be subject to the issuance of a parking ticket by police and removal by tow truck. Registration for the road race is available through Oct. 1, with all registrations being done online. The live event begins at 9 a.m. on Oct. 4. For more information about the road race, visit here.
