Recount Set For 90th State House District Race, Could Flip Result

WALLINGFORD, CT — The hotly contested state House of Representatives 90th District race is heading for a recount after an error was discovered that could flip the result between Democrat Jim Jinks and Republican incumbent Craig Fishbein, according to multiple reports. Jinks, a Town Councilor in Cheshire, declared victory early in the morning on Nov. 4 after election night totals showed him ahead of Fishbein, who is a member of the Wallingford Town Council. However, the Wallingford Town Clerk's office this week discovered that no votes from Mary G. Fritz Elementary School were recorded in the state election reporting system, according to the Connecticut Mirror. Fritz Elementary School is one of nine polling places in the 90th District, which represents parts of Cheshire and Wallingford. The updated results show Fishbein leading the race by 21 votes – 7,058 to 7,037, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of the State's office. Jinks previously led 5,747 to 5,330. The Meriden Record-Journal reports the recount, which will include both Wallingford and Cheshire, will take place Thursday. "It appears the 90th District race isn't decided just yet," Jinks wrote in a post on Twitter on Tuesday. "We'll have a recount on Thursday. Thank you again to all my supporters. Hang in there."
