Description

Do you play clarinet, French horn, oboe, bassoon, or percussion? Zionsville Concert Band is accepting new members. Auditions are not required. Although Zionsville Concert Band is named for its hometown, many members hail from Indianapolis, Lebanon, Beech Grove, Brownsburg, and other cities in the area. Joining Zionsville Concert Band is a free community service, and there is no remuneration. While some members of the band are professional musicians, most are amateurs with high school or college musical experience. They range in age from 18 to 85 but are united by a lifelong love of music. The band's usual performance schedule includes parks, retirement communities, and other venues, such as Lions Park in Zionsville, festivals, and the Indianapolis Artsgarden in Circle Center Mall in downtown Indianapolis. Several concerts have already been booked. The band was founded by John Richardson, who has served as Music Director since the organization's inception. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, in Rochester, NY, with a focus on French horn and piano, and Master's of Music degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. John was a member of "The President's Own" United States Marine Band and was French horn soloist in the White House Orchestra. He retired from Christ Lutheran Church of Zionsville where he served as organist and pianist, and earlier had been the Music Director, conductor of the hand bell choir, and director of the classical and contemporary instrumental ensembles. He has appeared as guest conductor of the Indiana Wind Symphony and the Indianapolis Municipal Band, and he conducted the band that assembled for the Bohumir Kryl Project at Wabash College's Visiting Artist Series. In addition to teaching piano and band instruments, John is a member of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Brass Choir. On Sundays he is one of the organists for church services at Hoosier Village Chapel and at Trinity Lutheran Church of Lebanon. The band rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30. Call Music Director John Richardson at for rehearsal details and information on joining the band. Also find the band at https://www.facebook.com/ZionsvilleConcertBand.
