NORWOOD, MA — Drivers in Norwood should avoid parts of the downtown as severe rain floods several streets, including East Hoyle Street near Norwood Hospital. There have been several reports that evacuations are underway at the hospital as the parking lot and portions of the property flood. Patients are being evacuated, according to WCVB, due to the flooding and several cars in the hospital campus parking lot are submerged in water. Hospital officials and first responders told reporters there were no injuries while patients were being moved and all patients who were in the intensive care unit were moved to other hospitals. Crews are starting to drain the hospital. Flooding in the rest of downtown includes the Nahatan Street railroad underpass, Central Street near Cottage Street and Washington Streey near Dean Street. Severe weather and lightning also blew a transformer in Westwood, according to WCVB. Severe thunderstorms and rains forced a flood warning as well as a severe thunderstorm watch. Flash flood warnings were also issued to Milford, Hopedale, Whitinsville, Worcester, Franklin and North Attleborough, among other places. The following counties are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. — a severe thunderstorm warning has not yet been issued: BerkshireFranklinMiddlesex SuffolkBristolHampdenNorfolkWorcesterEssexHampshirePlymouthPictures of flooding in downtown Norwood.
