Every year, thousands of Americans are injured or killed in water accidents. You can protect yourself and your family from such accidents.
Join Ridgeway Rescue Squad and our certified Swift Water Rescue Team for classroom training to learn how the river works and functions. You will be amazed at the power of water! Also, in the classroom, you will learn about some essential safety gear, swimming techniques, safety resources, and first aid. Then we will take the classroom to the Smith River for some hands-on in-the-water training to learn best practices while kayaking, swimming, fishing, especially when you find yourself in an emergency. We will show you how to walk in moving water, swim, and navigate the moving water properly in the river. We will practice with throw bags and pulling someone to shore with one. Our team will even demonstrate boat flips for you.
The course will be a fun-filled day of learning. Those who participate in the water part will be required to wear a helmet and PFD (personal flotation device) that Ridgeway Rescue will loan to you. We will provide snacks and drinks.
Prerequisites
• Minimum Age: 16
• For those that will participate in the water portion of the course, we ask that you be a confident swimmer
• A pair of shoes (must be worn in the river, crocs are not acceptable)
