FREEPORT, NY — A Freeport man was arrested on Oct. 30 after police say he tried to flee from officers in Freeport in a stolen car.
According to police, officers saw a 2018 Ford Escape on North Long Beach Road at 12:28 a.m., which a Village of Freeport license plate reader showed to be stolen. The officers turned on the lights in their squad car and pulled the car over.
As the officers approached, the driver — Ivan Gutierrez-Alcantara, 19, of E Avenue — shut off the car, police said. But he then started the engine and fled north on Wallace Street, according to police.
Officers stopped the car again a short time later and Gutierrez-Alcantara was arrested, police said.
Gutierrez-Alcantara is charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle and third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer. He was arraigned on Oct. 30 and released. A temporary order of protection was issued, according to court documents.
