Press release from the Town of Wakefield: April 22, 2022 On Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wakefield High School's front parking lot, State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian will host an inaugural Recycling & Sustainability Day for the Town of Wakefield. The event will be in partnership with the Town Council, Town Administrator Stephen Maio, the Wakefield Environmental Sustainability Committee, the Department of Public Works, Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light, Senator Jason Lewis, and organizations local to the Town and across the Commonwealth. This one-day event is a unique hub that allows neighbors of Wakefield to consciously clear clutter while making a difference and learning how to further their sustainability initiatives. At the Recycling & Sustainability Day Event, you can: Recycle your old dehumidifier and receive a rebate from Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light; Upcycle gently used furniture, appliances, and housewares with Habitat for Humanity; Recycle outdated electronics with peace of mind for proper data erasing with Green Team Junk Removal; Dispose of hard-to-recycle plastics through Wakefield Sustainability Committee's Terracycle program (bubble wrap, cereal bag liners, food storage and takeout containers, pallet covers, plastic shopping bags, plastic wrap, and shrink wrap); Explore volunteer opportunities with local organizations such as the Wakefield Youth Action Team Learn about current State climate resilience and energy legislation; and more! Representative Lipper-Garabedian will also partner with Sunflowers of Peace to address the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. At her table, you can participate in an online wishlist for Ukrainian orphans, displaced persons, and those affected by the current situation in Ukraine.
