The HR-57 Initiative: Cradles Revisited Concert Series
April 30. 2022 International Day of Jazz will be celebrated in Kansas City recognizing how after 35 years, a group of dedicated jazz enthusiasts and musicians from Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Washington and Philadelphia came together to discuss the strategic connectivity of these Cradles of Jazz cities as it pertains to Jazz Music and the musical journey of jazz, creating “The HR-57 Initiative”. In 1987, US Congressman John Conyers introduced H. Con. Res. 57 (known as HR-57), in order to preserve jazz as a "national treasure."
On Saturday, April 30th, musicians from Pittsburgh and Kansas City will hold a concert from 6pm to 9pm at Soiree Steak and Oyster Restaurant and after wards, inviting musicians to a jam session that last well into the night.
“We have affiliated with the Kansas City UNESCO Creative City of Music-USA, appreciating the efforts of Congressman Conyers and Baker in 1987 and again in 2014 via his introduction of HR 4280, expansion of HR57, little has been done to celebrate or document the journey of jazz as it pertains to cradle cities mentioned above.” Said Robert Farmer, Director of Urban America.
Recognizing this, the mission of the HR-57 Initiative is to promote the connectivity of great Jazz Music communities, and to celebrate both the music and the impact that the music has had on the culture of these communities and beyond.
