NEW HAVEN, CT —Video of the crash is terrifying. One of the New Haven-based Big Green Truck Pizza trucks traveling on I-91 Saturday was hit by a car traveling at what appears to be a very high rate of speed. Flipped onto its side after being struck, it slid for along the highway before coming to rest, on its side, well down the roadway. "By the grace of God, our boys inside are ok and were left with only minor bruises and scratches," the GoFundMe appeal reads. "Unfortunately, we can't say the same for our truck, which is now entirely out of commission." Posted to Facebook, where the video, taken by Daniel Jalkut, has been seen by thousands, there was an outpouring of support. "We want to thank everyone who has called with concerns and kind words," the post reads. "We are so grateful for you, we are strong, and we will rebuild." Liane Page of Big Green Truck Pizza told Patch that they're thankful for the love and support and now, the focus is on rebuilding. "Unfortunately, this accident will greatly impact" events slated for the next several months, as the truck is "completely out of commission." "After many beautiful messages from our community asking how you can help, we decided to create this page to accept donations to get a new oven made and rebuild our truck back," the appeal reads. "Unfortunately, insurance will only cover a small amount, and we need close to $250,000 to get the truck back up and running. Not including the loss of business from missing one of our trucks for a spring/summer season. Any little bit helps our family-run business get back on our feet." The GoFundMe goal is $50,000and within a few hours of it being posted, by Monday afternoon, $3,000 had already been pledged. "Finally, we want to thank everyone who has called with concern and kind words," Page wrote on Facebook. "We are strong, and we will rebuild, however, getting an oven built and shipped will take close to 12 weeks and fabricating a truck with our specifications takes almost a year." GoFundMe is a Patch partner.
