Christ Church Greenwich To Hold Food Packathon For Ukrainian Refugees

GREENWICH, CT — Following the success of a meal "packathon" for Ukrainian refugees in March, Christ Church Greenwich will hold another event this week. On April 29 at 5 p.m. in the Parish Hall, volunteers will pack 35,000 meals which will be shipped to Poland to feed the people who have fled from their home country. All are welcome to attend and help. At the last packathon on March 29, 250 volunteers packed 36,000 meals for Ukrainian refugees located on the border of Poland. During a two-and-a-half-hour shift, teams of volunteers assembled four complete nutritious ingredients: a carbohydrate, dehydrated vegetables, vitamin powder and a bean protein. Volunteers weigh the packages, seal them and box them for distribution - a simple, organized, and cost-effective way to feed children and families who have fled their homes. Additionally, a team of Christ church parishioners and clergy are working on helping families to resettle here in the United States. "The Ukraine situation is enormously significant," said the Rev. Marek Zabriskie in a news release. "It is hard to watch the news and sit still. We pray for the people who are suffering, and we want to help in any way that we can."
