NORTON, MA — If Chris Vittorini had kept on driving, or considered it someone else's problem, then someone might not have survived in Norton last week. The Norton resident was honored with the Norton Fire Department Citizen Lifesaving Award on Wednesday for his quick action week when he came upon someone unconscious on the side of a Norton road and began CPR. Norton fire said he performed CPR for seven minutes until emergency crews arrived. "Because of his actions the patient had a positive outcome and was awake and talking by the time the crew arrived at the hospital," Norton fire said. According to Norton fire, early CPR by the public plays an important role in a patients survival. A person's chances of surviving a cardiac arrest decreases by 10% every minute that CPR is not done.
