NORTON, MA — Norton has begun offering a meals program for all residents Monday through Friday. The change to the program means that parents, as well as students, will be able to get meals. The program is being offered through Norton Public Schools and will serve meals Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Friday, residents will be able to receive three meal packs for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Each resident will be provided with a breakfast and lunch seven days a week throughout the new coronavirus health emergency. Participants are directed to pull around the back of the Norton High School and follow the directions of the food service staff. Those who are not able to get to the high school to pick up meals, or who have any questions about the program, are asked to contact Matt Wells at 508-285-0100 Ext 4, then option 1, or through email at [email protected]. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 1,745 new confirmed coronavirus cases Wednesday, bringing the state's total to 42,944. The department also reported 221 new deaths, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Massachusetts to 2,182. The increase in the daily number of new cases comes after the five straight days of falling new case reports. The 221 deaths was the highest single-day total since Massachusetts recorded its first coronavirus death on March 20. The 2,182 total deaths from coronavirus are six less than the 2,188 Massachusetts residents who died in the Vietnam and Korean Wars.
