The CEO of CenterPoint Energy saw a big jump in his compensation while Evansville area customers saw big jumps in their natural gas bills.
According to the company's proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Chief Executive Officer David Lesar received $37.8 million last year.
That's compared to $11.9 million in 2020, when Lesar took over as CEO of the Texas-based company.
More than $33 million of his compensation in 2021 came from stock.
The Houston Chronicle and a watchdog group, the Energy and Policy Institute, published Lesar's compensation this week.
The disclosure comes as Evansville area customers deal with CenterPoint bills that have doubled – or more.
Local groups – including Congregations Acting for Justice and Empowerment – have decried the high energy bills.
CAJE will raise the issue during its Nehemiah Action event on May 9th at Old National Events Plaza.
