PETALUMA, CA — Police in Petaluma arrested a motorist early Saturday morning who they say was driving under the influence when his vehicle rolled over and collided with a parked pickup truck. Police and Petaluma Fire Department personnel responded to the incident, in the 900 block of Western Avenue, at 4:34 a.m. Once on scene, they located the driver, Miguel Hernandez, a 30-year-old Sonoma resident, and two female passengers. Hernandez explained that he and his female passengers were at a bar in Santa Rosa when they met a man who Hernandez said he only knew as "Jose." Hernandez stated that Jose offered to drive them home because they were intoxicated and was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision. Hernandez explained further that Jose fled the scene of the collision before police arrived. Petaluma police officers obtained Ring camera surveillance footage in the neighborhood that revealed Hernandez and his two female passengers were the only ones in the vehicle. Interviews with the passengers also confirmed that Hernandez was driving at the time of the crash. Both females suffered minor injuries due to the collision and were transported by firefighters to Petaluma Valley Hospital for treatment. Officers administered several field sobriety tests to Hernandez, which he failed. A breath test revealed that his blood alcohol content was one and a half times the legal limit. He was arrested for felony driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and providing false information to officers. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
