JOLIET, IL — The Illinois State Police said Jairren Williams, a 36-year-old Joliet man, is now in custody at the Grundy County Jail after they say he tried to sexually assault two women at an Interstate 80 rest stop in Grundy County.
Williams is being charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, armed violence, aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon.
Early Friday morning, state troopers responded to the rest area on westbound Interstate 80 in Grundy County for a reported sexual assault.
A woman told police that she was attacked, and the man attempted to sexually assault her. While troopers were responding to the scene, Williams tried to sexually assault another woman at the rest area, police said.
Both victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
At approximately 11:15 a.m., state police arrested Williams in the 900 block of West Jefferson Street in Joliet. A gun was found at the time, police indicated.
The Grundy County State's Attorney's Office approved the charges against Williams, and he was transported to the Grundy County Jail. His bail was set at $300,000.
