JOLIET, IL — A Kendall County judge set bail at $500,000 for Lavon Young, a 25-year-old resident of Plainfield, who was arrested after Joliet police said he pulled out a gun in the Anytime Fitness parking lot on Caton Farm Road.
He's charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a street gang member, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, not having a firearm owner's identification and unlawful possession of ammunition. Because the crime happened in the Kendall County portion of Joliet, Young was booked into the Kendall County Jail.
Around 11:20 p.m., Joliet police were sent to Anytime Fitness for a report of a man with a gun. As a man was exiting his car, "Young approached him and asked for a lighter. Young then pointed a handgun at the victim and then fled the parking lot," Joliet police said.
Officers spotted Young walking with a woman near Gallatin Drive and Cumberland Drive, police reports show. As officers approached Young, he tried to pass off the gun to the woman, according to police.
Officers placed Young in custody and recovered the 9 mm handgun, police spokesman Dwayne English said.
Young lives in the 2100 block of Hastings Drive in Plainfield, jail logs indicate.
