ROUND LAKE, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified a 38-year-old woman who died after being pulled from her burning home as Nicole Goulding of Round Lake. The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District found Goulding on the second floor of the two-story duplex in the 100 block of Providence Lane on Saturday morning after being called to the scene by a neighbor, who saw smoke coming from the roof. Authorities believe the blaze started in the kitchen area of the duplex. Goulding was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where she later died, authorities said. Initial results from an autopsy show Goulding died from smoke inhalation. Results from additional toxicology and carbon monoxide tests have not yet been released, according to a statement from the coroner's office. Firefighters also removed two dogs from the duplex. One survived, and the other dog died. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, the Round Lake Police Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal. Following the blaze, fire officials are urging residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors in their homes, and that all pathways to get out your residence are clear in case there is an emergency.
