TRUMBULL, CT — Tow truck driver Corey John Iodice, 58, of Florida, was struck and killed while assisting a driver whose vehicle had broken down on Route 15 in Trumbull Wednesday afternoon, Connecticut State Police said. Police said Iodice's tow truck, owned by Fairfield-based Iodice Family Transport LLC, along with two other vehicles, a 2008 Mercedes and a 2010 Audi, were stopped in the right shoulder on Route 15 southbound just south of Exit 48 in Trumbull. The Mercedes, driven by a Bridgeport man, was disabled and being loaded onto the flatbed potion of the tow truck at the time of the accident, police said. The Audi, which was driven by another Bridgeport man, had arrived to pick up the driver of the Mercedes and was parked right behind his friend's car, police said. "At the time of the collision (the tow truck) had its flatbed lowered and had vehicle 2 on the bed portion," police said. "All three vehicles were off the paved portion of the roadway and in the grassy right shoulder adjacent to the right lane." A 46-year-old Weston man driving a 2016 BMW in the right lane, "lost control for unknown reasons," and struck the passenger side of the Mercedes and Audi, police said. The BMW then traveled up the bed of the tow truck and struck Iodice, who was standing near the the flatbed portion of the tow truck, police said. The tow truck then rolled over onto its roof and ended up on the right shoulder, police said. Iodice was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation. The accident was reported at 4:44 p.m. and was cleared just before 9 p.m. The highway was shutdown for several hours Wednesday.
