DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI — Police shot a man Monday morning in Dearborn Heights after he nearly struck an officer with his vehicle while fleeing officers, police said.
Police said they found the vehicle, matching the descriptions of one used in previous fleeing and eluding incidents in Dearborn Heights and Centerline, at 6:31 a.m. Monday in the 8600 block of Evangeline Street just south of Joy Road near Beech Daly.
When officers spotted the vehicle, they could not see inside it because of significant window tinting, officials said. So officers began speaking with a family member, police said.
That's when officers noticed movement inside the vehicle and heard the vehicle's engine start, police said. The driver revved the engine and drove the vehicle toward an officer, who then fired his gun twice, police said.
The man drove to a relative's house in Detroit, where he was arrested by police, officials said.
The 27-year-old Dearborn Heights man was grazed by the officer's gunshots but refused medical treatment, according to police..
Dearborn Heights police turned the shooting investigation over to Michigan State Police, who were continuing the investigation. State troopers will then turn over their report to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
