MARIETTA, GA — Police said two people were seriously injured after they were thrown from their motorcycle during a collision with a vehicle over the weekend in Marietta. The passenger on the motorcycle was a 9-year-old girl. The crash happened Saturday shortly after 4 p.m. on Delk Road at Franklin Gateway. Police said an on-scene investigation revealed that a 2018 Honda Accord being driven by Marcus Goncalves, 38, of Marietta was stopped on Delk Road at Franklin Gateway, waiting to turn south onto Franklin Gateway. A 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Jesse Hughen, 44, of Lithia Springs was traveling West on Delk Road approaching Franklin Gateway. For reasons unknown at this time, police said Goncalves exited his turn lane and attempted to cross over multiple westbound lanes of Delk Road. Police said the Honda entered the path of the motorcycle as it approached the intersection. The motorcycle struck the front right quarter panel of the Honda, ejecting Hughen and his 9-year-old female passenger. Both Hughen and his passenger sustained serious injuries. Hughen was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. The juvenile female motorcycle passenger was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, police said. The crash remains under investigation. It was not immediately clear if Goncalves was charged or injured. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact S.T.E.P. Investigator Thomas Ayres at 770-794-5384.
