Trumbull Veterans Center Gets State Grant

CONNECTICUT — The condemned veterans center is closer to a complete renovation after the state approved more than $128,000 for the project. The funds will be used for demolition, design and site preparation for the new Trumbull Veterans and First Responder Center. The town will match more than $20,000 in donations for the project as well, according to Gov. Ned Lamont's office. Lamont approved $11 million in state funding for grants through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program. The program helped fund infrastructure projects in 94 towns. The town leased the building to veterans organizations for $1 annually, but it was condemned in 2017 after the floor settled and was deemed unrepairable, according to the Trumbull Times. The new center would serve as a gathering place for veterans and also offer access to job skill training, health care and social services. The total project cost is expected to be between $2.4 and $2.8 million.
